The Signatures
The poster is believed to carry the signatures of:
Niki Lauda
One of Formula One’s greatest World Champions and, particularly appropriately, the winner of the 1975 Monaco Grand Prix for Ferrari.
Emerson Fittipaldi
Two-time Formula One World Champion and McLaren driver. Fittipaldi finished second at Monaco in 1975, just 2.78 seconds behind Lauda.
James Hunt
One of the most iconic personalities in Formula One history and the 1976 Formula One World Champion. Hunt competed in the 1975 Monaco Grand Prix driving for Hesketh.
Jochen Mass
The German Grand Prix driver who raced alongside Emerson Fittipaldi at McLaren during the 1975 season. Mass finished sixth at Monaco in 1975.
The combination is especially fitting because all four drivers represented by the believed signatures competed in the very race depicted on the poster.
The 1975 Monaco Grand Prix
Held around the streets of Monte Carlo on 11 May 1975, the Monaco Grand Prix formed round five of the 1975 Formula One World Championship.
Niki Lauda started from pole position in the Ferrari 312T and went on to take victory after 75 laps.
Emerson Fittipaldi brought his McLaren home in second, while Jochen Mass finished sixth in the second McLaren. James Hunt qualified 11th in his Hesketh and competed in the race before retiring.
It was an important Monaco victory for Lauda during the season in which he would go on to secure his first Formula One World Championship.
That connection between the artwork, event and drivers makes this a particularly interesting piece of 1970s Formula One memorabilia.
